What’s more American than Apple Pie? I typically make Apple Pie for 4th of July and always for holidays as it’s a family favorite. I have numerous Apple Pie recipes, but this is the recipe for Traditional Apple Pie. And you can find the Pie Crust recipe on our recipe pages as well.

Prep Time: 30 Minutes
Cook Time: 1 Hour
Total Time: 1 Hour and 30 Minutes
Servings: 8

Ingredients:

  • 2 discs Grandma Tillie's Pie Crust (can be found in our recipes posts)
  • 6 cups apples (a variety of 3 or more types is best, i.e. Granny Smith, Jonagold, Pink Lady, Honeycrisp, etc)
  • 2 Tbsp flour
  • Dash salt
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 Tbsp butter
  • 1 eggs
  • 1 tsp. water
  • 1 Tbsp vanilla sugar, or granulated sugar

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.

  2. Peel apples, cut into quarters, core and slice crosswise of each quarter. Mix together flour, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg and 1 cup sugar. Toss apples well with this mixture.

  3. Roll out pie crusts to fit into a 9-inch pie pan. Put 1 crust on the bottom of pie pan and fill with apples. Dot with butter. Cover with 2nd pie crust and crimp edges.

  4. Make an egg wash with egg and water, brush top crust with egg wash, and sprinkle with 1 tablespoon sugar. Cut a few holes in the top crust to allow steam to escape. Bake for 1 hour.
